Immigrant Support Team

In June 2017, MCC passed the following resolution: 

As a matter of faith, and in solidarity with our undocumented brothers and sisters whose lives and families are being torn apart by immoral immigration policies and enforcement actions, we of Madison Christian Community declare ourselves to be a Sanctuary Congregation. We commit to engage in support, advocacy, and service within our capacity to our immigrant neighbors and, in collaboration with the interfaith community and broader Dane Sanctuary network, to provide physical sanctuary as the need arises.

Getting Involved

We continue to participate in and advocate for the DSC Volunteer Driver Program which provides rides for immigrants to vital appointments and hearings.

This past year a small group of MCC members traveled to the border for a border immersion experience; they met with border patrol, a judge, a public defender, and a professor as well as visiting several shelters and ministries in El Paso, Las Cruces and Mexico.  Shortly afterwards MCC was able to help support an immigrant couple for several months.

MCC members continue to support the Dignity Mission which provides kits of cosmetic and hygiene supplies for people who are waiting at the border in the El Paso/Ciudad Juarez area.  Donations can be made to MCC, with Dignity Mission in the memo.

MCC has also contributed to and highlighted the Community Immigration Law Center which provides legal representation and services for immigrants.

The Immigrant Support Team has recruited new members and is learning how to best support our immigrant siblings during these uncertain times.
